Fluid Pressure

Fluid Pressure

When a fluid (either liquid or gas) rests, it exerts a vertical force, which acts perpendicularly on every point of the surface which comes into contact with this fluid. We define as pressure P on a surface area S, the ratio of the perpendicular force F, which is applied on the surface, divided by the area S of this surface:

Pressure is a scalar quantity, and is measured in Pascal (Pa) in the international unit system SI, One Pascal is equal to 1N/m2. 1Pa=1N/m2.
